If you think this bill means art theft is now legal, you need to read into it a little more, not just what people have said about it.

None of you have orphaned art if you are alive and able to be contacted. Basically, if there is no way to find who made the art, or the person who made it has been dead for a good while, it becomes orphaned, and sometimes becomes what we call public domain after some time. It's not theft, it's a matter of sharing art that no longer has any owner or knowledge of one.

Yes, it does open up more possibilities of art being used without permission, it forces us to BE AWARE of where our art is being used and to make sure we are including contact info or at least an alias that is easy to track down to find the origin of the art. It's also a bill, which means it is not a law, and thus it has not gone into effect.

This does not mean you have to support it. I for one don't support it, I have signed petitions agains it, but I'm not freaking out because I think my rights under the First Amendment are going to be taken away because of a bill regarding orphaned works.

It's amazing what a riot can be caused by a bill that's been floating around for 2 years already. So what popular deviant posted the journal that led to all this chaos eh? Lol.
